What does it take to make the USA ISDE effort work?
It takes lots of money, volunteers and timing. It takes a huge amount of funds to
move 34 riders and their bikes and gear around the world. The AMA spends $12,000
just on gasoline for the bikes during the competition, and more than $1,500 on food
and water for the riders at the checkpoints and at Parc Ferme at the end of the
day. Volunteers make up the team of workers that staff the multiple checkpoints
on the course, starting line work area, and Parc Ferme.
Many thanks go out to the more than 60 volunteer workers who pay their own way and
brave the elements to support our riders. As with anything of this magnitude, timing
is critical in dealing with multiple deadlines for entries, customs export and shipping.
We are basically moving a small town around the globe. The residents of that “AMA
Team USA town” just happen to be some of the best off-road racers on the planet.
The riders themselves also spend a lot of their own money to compete at the ISDE.
Many hold fundraisers and sell ISDE-themed gear to offset the considerable costs.
Please help if you can. Listed in alphabetical order, below are links to riders’
individual web pages where you can no doubt find ways you can help. (Are you an
ISDE rider who would like to place a link on this page? If so, please e-mail
